The Space Between

The Space Between

Art Installation at Meadows Museum of Art in Shreveport, Louisiana during the summer of 2018.

I started creating the tear drop pieces as a grieving mechanism after the death of my mother, Montie Louise Johnson, in 2016. Much of the materials here are from her sewing room. I liken them to pieces of our souls, layered together, mixing with and changing others. In constant motion and flux, pushing themselves beyond the material plane.

This installation is a culmination of this work. It represents a version of the story where energies travel between events and leave impressions at the victories and heartbreaks throughout our life. Manifestations of ghosts and specters that come into view for one brief moment, and that we spend our days trying to see once more in the space between.

I was graciously assisted in this installation by artists Ashley Akin, Aaron Culpepper and Amanda Ebarb.

The music was composed by Nathan Treme.
